Mating pair, St. Cyril

Judging by the number of paired-off pheasants I've seen in the last couple weeks, these beauties aren't going anywhere. The dog roused this pair and a few dozen others that day.

The Wacky Wagon Contest

Last weekend a few hundred thousand people descended on Eastern Market for the annual Flower Day festivities, which included what the brochure called a "wacky wagon" contest. The guys at the hardware store said we had to enter the dog wagon, so we walked up Sunday afternoon and picked up some seedlings and won "best sport wagon" in the contest that included fierce competition from a wagon decorated like a pirate ship and a few others covered with flowers.

The best part of the day was the spectacle we created walking down a crowded Russell Street with the the wagon. So many smiles.

At MOCAD

I must have taken the kids to the Cranbrook MFA show at MOCAD a half dozen times during its short run. Amid a few duds there were some really bright spots, and there were a surprising number of installations that were a lot of fun for the kids, such as this strange crystal swan cave by sculptor Emily Nachison. It was like being inside a chalk geode. . .with magical papier mache swans. The boy was really into this felt+foam furniture by fiber artist Tricia Stackle:

I would totally buy one of those chairs if she ever chooses to sell them.
